Naples

Sorrento

From Sorrento, we'll also be able to journey along the Amalfi Coast, visiting Positano, Ravello and Salerno. If our timing is good, we may be able to spend a night or two in one of these beautiful seaside towns.

From the Amalfi Coast, we'll continue our journey south, all the way to Calabria, the "toe" of the Italian boot. From here, we'll enjoy spectacular views of Sicily and Mount Etna as well as the unpredictable Strait of Messina. Calabria is one of the regions that just begs to be explored and experienced.  And while we're there, we'll visit the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia, to take in the Riace Bronzes - two of the best preserved free- standing Greek Bronze Statues in the world. These are thought to be the most significant Bronze Statues from Italy's Greek Period and among the

few surviving works of  the Greek

master sculptors on the Italian

peninsula.

Fall, 2018: Southern Italy

Join me as I return to explore the "OTHER" Italy - The South. From Naples south, the regions are truly part of a different country than their northern neighbors. And what better time to explore the south than in the Fall when the weather is still pleasant and comfortable and the summer tourist crowds have thinned out considerably.

So let's start our exploration in Naples where the big city feel gives way to small, walkable neighborhoods with fine bakeries, gelaterias, bars, pizzarias and trattorias. Here we'll sample the original hand tossed Neapolitan pizza and some of the finest pastries on the peninsula - sfogliatelle. While in Naples, we'll also take the opportunity to visit one of the best kept secrets or Italy - the Museo Archologico Nazionale di Napoli  - a grand museum that houses a large selection of artifacts from Pompeii and Herculaneum. We'll also have the opportunity to take a day trip to Capri and/or visit the archeological sites at Pompeii.

Then, we're off to Sorrento and it's citrus flavored life. There's so much to see and do in Sorrento.... or not, because Sorrento is one of those beautiful places on the planet to just hang out in and relax. While there, we'll have plenty of opportunities to sample the fine cuisine, including pizza, pasta, seafood, gelato and anything lemon. I also plan on checking into a cooking class or two for us while we're there.
